I Need a Vacation From My Vacation!
Full of appreciation and gratitude, I stopped to take a moment to reflect on the most amazing week that I could have NEVER planned! And yet, somehow all the pieces fell perfectly into place. :)
Because it will take me some time to properly write up all the adventures of the past week I want to give you an overview of what has happened. I will have MANY articles forthcoming with much more detail about all these visits individually. Please watch for that because blogging to properly showcase arenas takes time and, as I will explain, there were a massive number of arenas on this trip and I want to do them all justice in my upcoming articles.
If you had asked me two weeks ago where I would be headed on my vacation I would have told you Hawaii. Well, Hurricane Lowell ended that journey before it even began, so I pivoted to a new plan and, in my continuing effort to laser tag in all 50 states for a third time, I decided to take these suddenly freed up few days to tour the tag scene across the Midwest, ultimately leading me to play laser tag in seven states over the course of five days and then follow that up with a day of laser tag on a military base with Marine Corps recruits and their families. Here’s how that happened.
I flew to Dallas, where I had an overnight stopover, allowing me time to tag in five arenas in Texas, including one that actually builds their own laser tag equipment! There will be photos and video to showcase it all, but let me just say they go BIG in Texas!
The next morning I boarded a flight at DFW bound for Billings, Montana where there weee two new arenas to check out.
Once in Montana, I rented a car and started driving east towards North Dakota. I didn’t make it there that same day, but these travels took place over the course of several days. So I found a hotel and the next morning drove the rest of the way to Bismarck, ND, thinking I timed it perfectly.
However I forgot about one important thing…crossing over time zones! So I lost an hour and arrived in North Dakota later than I planned and hoped it wouldn’t throw off my schedule too much for driving over five hours to my next stop in South Dakota.
Well, turns out I had to cross back over the time zone line again, so I gained that hour back to tag in South Dakota that night. Whew! Time to find a place to crash for the night. Then the next morning I was off to Wyoming!
These last two states technically have more than one arena, but for the purposes of this trip they were each a one shot deal, which I am grateful worked out so well. From here I drove South into Colorado.
More amazing experiences before calling it a night (or a really full day). Then I was up at 1:00 am Denver time to head to the airport the next morning. I guess that was in the Mountain Time Zone because my connecting flight landed at DFW in the Central Time Zone where I barely had time to feel the shift before boarding a flight to the Pacific Time Zone and landing in sunny California!
I headed for San Marcos and spent a few hours playing special format games with my local tag friends.
And after spending the night in San Marcos I woke up bright and early to enjoy the journey southbound to San Diego. I did take some time to enjoy the La Jolla Cove (definitely a place I recommend visiting if you are in ver nearby).
And then I had an amazing experience, as I had been invited to play laser tag with Marine Corps recruits and their families right on a military base where they would be graduating from boot camp the following day!
This was an unbelievable opportunity that happened to align perfectly with this trip!
So that should give you an idea of why I need a vacation from my vacation!
And that’s how it is that I have concluded my week of tag visits by enjoying what normal people do on vacation while reflecting on all the amazing opportunities that I was so fortunate to have experienced on my trip!
