Swinging Through South Dakota
If you’re thinking it’s quite a drive between major cities from North to South Dakota, you are correct. It took about five hours for me to make my way to the Gel Blaster Nexus arena at Jump N Slide Adventure Park in Rapid City, SD before the end of the day.
I crossed back over the time zone line for the second time this day. Along the route there are long stretches of nothing but highway, punctuated by towns so small that they have population signs like this!
But the lengthy drive was well worth it to have a chance to be able to laser tag in this state.
This arena gives a spotlight to the gear with the logo letters prominently glowing under the blacklights.
They are operating GBN version 2. I signed in using the app on my phone and went into a 1v1 game, tagging throughout a glowing garden tinged by “toxic slime” imagery.
The perimeter walls have a stunning mural of this aquatic waterfall.
And the floors are covered in turf, as here they alternate between the Gel Blaster gellet game and the Nexus laser tag format.
I enjoyed tagging around the props and barriers that give this single-level arena its character.
And when the game was over I had taken a victory over the Dreadful Wolf.
It had been a long day, but I left quite pleased that I had met my goal of laser tagging in both North and South Dakota in the same day. This journey was certainly a once in a lifetime venture, but making it into a road trip allowed me to squeeze a lot of experiences into a short window of time and I feel really blessed that I was able to do it!
