The Most Incredible Game in Wyoming

I’m not exaggerating to say that the most incredible game in Wyoming has to be the laser tag I played at Derby Lanes in Cheyenne.

Even though I arrived at an odd time, early on a weekday, as soon as I met the manager, Brian, I could tell he was as enthusiastic as I was about making a laser tag game possible. So he set me up with two of his best players (his daughter Mia and fellow staff member Jared) and we were off to play some Helios 2 in an upstairs arena located above their bowling alley.

First, let’s talk about the game. We vested up in our Zone gear and entered the arena, which I noticed was darker than it would normally be for typical public play. This should be fun! We tagged with the dynamic movement lights on, but the black lights turned off, for a game essentially played in the shadows. :)

Couple that with the pulsing music and the intensity of the competition (we all took this game VERY seriously!) and we had an amazing free for all experience playing a system l love in an atmosphere where it felt like anyone could pop up from anywhere…and they did!

Now, what catches my eye the most about the arena is the Wyoming-themed airbrushed murals and artwork depicted at every turn. From tagging with the wild horses…

…to the nearby mountains…

…and the towering trees, they really took the time to add some elements that set the scene to make you think about where you are and appreciate the local region here in Cheyenne.

As the options for laser tag in Wyoming are few and far between, it was great to see this one both done very well and themed accordingly.

Even the scoreboard was framed by a picturesque wall mural, keeping the flow of the theme going both in and out of the arena.

The arcade/laser tag part of the business opened about three years ago and was later followed by the bowling alley. Now they are thriving with escape rooms, plenty of entertainment activities to offer as well as cafe and bar on site. I really enjoyed this entire experience, particularly breathing a sigh of relief that the most challenging states to play in the Midwest were all successful stops for me this trip. This arena is well worth a visit and definitely made me feel like this sign on the front of the building is accurate!
