The Second Unicorn

I drove right past Loveland without realizing that they were open on Tuesdays (sorry guys, got my wires crossed), but if I hadn’t, I might have missed finding the second unicorn at Main Event in Colorado Springs, CO.

Yes, this photo was taken at a Main Event! If you are picking up on what a few friends immediately noticed, you’ll see that I am wearing a Zone Helios CE pack instead of the Delta Strike (or for a short time, GBN) that I would normally expect to find here. Only once before have I ever come across an M.E. running unexpected equipment (LF at a test site in Texas), so that’s why I refer to this as the second unicorn.

I got the scoop from game marshal, Nathan, about what made this Main Event a bit different.

He told me it had previously been a Brunswick Zone, then The Summit (the only Summit location I never made it to) before being purchased by Main Event. This accounts for why they are still running this laser tag equipment and why it looks unlike any other Main Event I have ever visited. Quite logically, it’s because it wasn’t originally built to be a Main Event!

Everything you see here makes sense when you see it through that lens.

That is also why they still have holdover signage like this, identifying the “Lazer Zone”. I loved getting to play against Nathan because he has a real passion for laser tag also and was enthusiastic about these kinds of details just like I am. It was delightful to both play and chat about laser tag at the same time.

There are two other Main Events in Northern Colorado in Windsor and Thornton that I speculate (but only confirmed one of the two) were possibly both in former Summit locations as well, so I wonder if they have been revamped or kept the same. I didn’t visit because I already had both former Summits on my arena list and would not count them twice. However, it may be interesting to see if I find more places on my journey where a similar situation is evident. Perhaps there are more laser tag unicorns still to be found! :)
