What’s New, Malibu?
There is a new Malibu Jack’s in Thornton, CO, open for less than a year and new since my last visit to the state. I was excited to pay a visit before flying out of Denver the next day. So I introduced myself and manager Lacey was kind enough to free up Owen for a game against me, with the condition that he “do us proud and don’t let her beat you!” Lol!

Well, Owen was a worthy competitor and I really appreciated being able to check out this new arena.

We put on our Delta Strike Genesis packs and then ran circles around each other and this giant centerpiece egg.

Does this look familiar?

I saw the same theme recently at their sister location, Maui’s Indoor Theme Park in Owensboro, KY, but if I had to give the edge to one arena over the other, I’d say this one looks a tiny bit better to me. Why? Look up and you’ll see that they are using a mix of white lighting with the blacklights that in my opinion brightened the space up. Now, honestly, I’m not going to pretend I remember the lighting choices at every arena I visit, but for comparison’s sake, this photo was taken in Owensboro using my same phone, so I think it illustrates my point.

Both arenas were fun, but this one had a bit more open layout for the maze walls and doing a 1v1 game gave me a chance to play a bit differently against my Colorado challenger. How did it go? Well, Owen was wearing those Meta glasses that record, so we have some video footage of our game.
Well played, Owen! Lacey and I chatted a bit and I learned that not all the Malibu Jack’s locations fall under the same ownership, which made a lot of things make more sense. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this site, even spending come time playing the Icee arcade game and racking up 440 tickets (after honing my skills on the Liquid Death version of the game during Amusement Expo). I didn’t really need my redemption tickets, so I gave them to a beaming little girl who was enjoying the arcade with her parents and I felt like this was exactly the kind of atmosphere and experience I am glad to see expanding. I wish them lots of luck growing this brand to more locations like the one I enjoyed visiting in Thornton, CO.
