Laser Storm Adventures at Zone 152

This weekend the Laser Storm Nationals were taking place. While wishing everyone the best at the Nats I was having my own Laser Storm adventures visiting Zone 152 in Mustang, Oklahoma!

My thanks to Brandi, the owners happened to of this facility, for coordinating an opportunity for me to check out her site. I have had this location on my radar to visit for about a year now (thanks for the tip, Gord!) and it was the main reason I decided to make a detour to Oklahoma. Very well worth it!

Brandi gave me a bit of the history of this business as she led me through the front lobby to the vesting area where there were rows of Laser Storm packs ready to go.

This arena has been part of the local community for about two decades, however it was formerly known as PlayZone and had previously had different owners. When the business went up for sale Brandi purchased it (along with the inflatables side) and turned it into Zone 152 somewhere around 2018. That accounts for the really cool build of this two story arena, which is exactly the kind of thing I love to see. No cookie cutter design here. They don’t build them like this anymore…but they should! :)

It’s tough to capture the totality of this space in photos. Essentially, when you walk in you can head to either the red or green energizers in opposite corners on each end of the lower level. I chose green and got ready to play.

Directly in front of the entrance is a tower with an octagonal room on both the top and bottom, then there is another symmetrical tower across the upper level catwalk as well.

These rooms are the coolest feature by far, each surrounded by vertical metal bars so you can easily tag from above)

There is a flashing blue target in each of the upper levels with a couple strategically placed on the lower level outside the rooms. When the game is playing this makes for a very cool darkened lighting effect, but I asked to turn the lights on just to showcase this feature better.

To get to the upper level you can take a ramp up on either side that goes down the same side as well, giving the whole place a nice balance of symmetry, although it is an undivided arena.

The lower level has short tunnels running underneath the catwalk, allowing for you to access either side of the space in a stealth-like manner.

As you can see, the arena build at Zone 152 is really something different, which I think adds to the appeal of a location like this. No doubt lots of memories have been made here over the years!

I don’t get to play Storm as often as I would like, however, I did pretty well this time. :)

Several of my friends at the Nats were immediately asking questions when I shared a preview of my visit, as the Laser Storm community is always interested in finding cool locations to play. This one definitely qualifies and I hope that other Storm players will have a chance to experience the kind of fun I had visiting Zone 152!
