Southbound Tagging

My plane landed in Orlando early on Tuesday afternoon of IAAPA show week, but there is no sense in me even trying to talk to people on busy day one, so instead my week started with (you guessed it) visits to a few laser tag arenas. I had already played most of the Orlando sites, so I hopped into my rental car and, as Carrie Underwood sings about, I was Southbound! ;)

My first stop was to Urban Air in Port St. Lucie, FL.

The lovely woman on duty advised me I would have to purchase the Platinum package to play a game, as it is the only one that included laser tag, but when you’ve already traveled over 1100 miles to get there, you figure “in for a penny, in for a pound” (though I would like to recommend it would be good for more trampoline parks adopt premium ala carte pricing options in addition to their packages), so I bought my wristband, my jump socks and even a purple Urban Air T-shirt to add to the vault! Then, prepared with all my gear, I headed over to the laser tag.

I met up with the young game marshal, Riker, who joined me for a game of Delta Strike Evolution.

We entered the arena, which is one of CW’s open air styles that I believe they started with Urban Air a few years back. We traversed the space as people on the outside of the wall could easily look in to see what was going on.

I like the open air concept because laser tag is really the only attraction that operators typically work to make really attractive and exciting, then usually end up hiding it in an enclosed space. Here you can see all the cool structures that make up the arena build.

I like the giant phaser suspended above this wall.

And the balcony level against the far wall gives this space a bit of playable height for a half second level.

When a group showed up a short time later I stuck around to play a second game.

This was an enjoyable way to kick off my multi-system tag night and I continued on to see what else I might find as I continued my journey tagging Southbound. :)
