24 Hours in Kentucky

Last weekend I set off on a whirlwind 24 hour tour of Kentucky, that led me to make a loop from Louisville to Owensboro and back, starting and ending my adventure at Malibu Jack’s.
As soon as I landed in Louisville, I made a beeline for Malibu Jack’s Louisville first, where I prepared to check out their Laser Invasion arena.

I entered the briefing room to find the bright rows of Laserforce Gen 7 packs and, since this is Kentucky, commemorated my first stop with…wait for it…a Kentucky fried rubber chicken!

I entered the arena to find an interesting build that kind of feels like you are tagging through tunnels, simply for the curved structure of the maze walls.

I looked high and low (because you never know!), but I did not find any bases in there. Instead, this game was just about player tags and exploring the space. Light were flashing and added some dimension that harkened back to the pattern at the top of the wall curves.

This single level arena plays mostly lengthwise across three distinctive sections and was a great way to start the day.
I’ll skip ahead to the end of the day. After playing several arenas, I found myself rounding out my day at another Malibu Jack’s in Elizabethtown, KY.

This arena was also called Laser Invasion, but was completely different from the MJ’s I played earlier in the day.

Here they are running Delta Strike Genesis.

I found a pretty open CW floorplan inside with a familiar structure.

The hex bases were protected by this guy I haven’t seen in awhile! :)

And the part of the arena that stood out to me most may be a little surprising, as it is so simple, but these standalone walls throughout the arena with deep cutouts were fun to peek up and tag through, a little like a game of Whac-a-Mole!

So Malibu Jack’s marked my first and last arena of the day (with a couple other arenas I’ll discuss in other posts) and when I was done I just enjoyed some time in town. I always love to find delicious sushi whenever I am traveling.

But this is Kentucky, home of KFC, so I definitely had to stop for a photo op with the colonel before heading home.

And you know who else got a rubber chicken for a souvenir? :)

What a great time I had visiting Kentucky!
