I’m a Moving Target!

I have played laser tag at many Urban Air locations over the years, so I know what I typically expect to find is an open-air style arena with bright walls, often a half-level overlooking the arena and Delta strike gear in the briefing area. However, in addition to all that, when I visited Urban Air in Waterbury, CT I found two smiling little kids eagerly waiting for someone to join them for a game and I was delighted to be in the right place at the right time to be their “moving target”. Let’s go play some laser tag!

As you can imagine, when you are three feet tall, this maze can seem massive and like a whole other world. I’d compare it to walking into a Trapper Keeper or a Lisa Frank fantasy land, but these kids are too young to know just how spot on those comparisons are, lol!

Instead, this brother and sister duo just learned from the game marshal about how to put on their packs and then watched a briefing video, while shuffling back and forth in eager anticipation of getting to play laser tag. Finally, we all walked into the arena and the game began.
Their mother was watching this whole scene play out from the other side of the open air window, which allows for spectators to view the game from the outside. We smiled at each other while I walked away slowly, keeping my back turned until the youngster firing his phaser behind me successfully made the tag to deactivate my pack. :)

This is how we proceeded for the duration of the game and I could tell those kids were having the time of their life getting to tag “that lady…there she is!” ;)
My thanks to the manager, Larry, who facilitated my being able to join this game. I wanted to experience another arena while traveling through Connecticut and in this case it wasn’t the arena itself that interested me as much as what kind of unique experience it might bring. The memory of the excitement I saw in those kids’ faces is definitely the takeaway I will remember most from this particular visit.
