Jurassic Lasers

Sometimes I really feel like a big kid when I visit a new laser tag arena and see an amazing exterior, so I immediately get excited about seeing what else is inside. That’s how I felt when Scuba, Dave, Nobody, Logan, Tunns, Toby and I all made a Tivigeddon stop over to Tilt Studios new location in Sandusky, Ohio.

The entrance to their “Quarantine Planet” laser tag attraction is gorgeous! The airbrushed, bright and colorful dinosaur (and other creature) theming hooked me before we even walked in, just the way it should. Successful execution so far!

Our group got our game cards and entered the briefing room to watch the video before vesting up in nice, new Helios CE packs.

This site has only been open for less than a year. I am almost surprised to not see them on H2. That is an observation, but in no way a complaint, because I really love getting to play using this phaser style.

We were shown to the arena entrance and my heart leaped to see such a gorgeous setting for the game! Let me say, photos do not do this place proper justice!

The focal point of the arena is this animatronic dinosaur that keeps moving throughout the game.

I’ve seen this prop before (in fact, I’m sure I saw him at another Tilt location), but when properly used it makes a big impression!

We had to capture this!

Talk about Jurassic Lasers (someone please make that movie)!

The arena space has a fairly open floor plan. Not a whole lot of cover if you are evading other players or creatures suspended from above.

Lots of the standing barriers are done with this crossways, freestanding design, which gave us a moment of debate as to who we thought may have done the design work.

The base structures had more cute, quarantined creatures accenting them.

Blog readers know that I really love to find cool statement structures. And while I feel this one is a little played out…

I really LOVE this one!

Go big or go home, right?

Speaking of which, Toby and Tunns made a really valiant effort towards trying to claim a big souvenir of the trip.

This was a really impressive Tilt Studios and I am glad we had an opportunity to see how much amazing design work went into their laser tag. This was one of the coolest looking arenas of this whole trip, which is really saying something since we have definitely been to some good ones.

I also want to note how well it bodes for the laser tag industry that attractions are continuing to be added. This is the third bonus location I have visited on this trip in Ohio alone that has opened with laser tag in the past year. Anecdotal as it is, I think this is a very good indicator that operators continue to recognize the interest and value in having laser tag be included as part of their entertainment venues and that heartens me to see.

So, this was really a great stop that we all enjoyed. After the visit we went our separate ways for dinner before returning for the next leg of the tournament in progress.

While tonight there was only one side quest, I am delighted with the way these additional locations have added significant enhancement to what has already been a pretty amazing tag trip.
