Tagging in Stealth Silence

My final stop on my Iowa trip was to Spare Time Cedar Rapids. This visit had some unexpected surprises!

Most of the Spare Time locations I have played use Zone equipment, so I was surprised to find Lasertron in use at this one. Game marshal Elijah told me this site goes its own way as he led me into the vesting room (both of us looking like Gamora!) in preparation for our 1v1 game.

As we were walking into the arena he was first to notice something interestingly coincidental. Simply by chance, the two packs we selected happened to have no sound. I told him I was fine with proceeding with those packs anyway, so we played a shields up/down FFA game that turned out to be stealth by complete accident. As it happened, in this particular context that turned out to be really cool and add some unexpected variety to the game!

We entered the single level space.

Other than the silent packs, we otherwise played the game as normal, except we were relying solely on our sense of sight instead of the typical audio feedback. I honestly loved this and, if given the choice, might like to experience it this way again! I know it was just happenstance, but it made for a memorable game experience and a pretty good way to end the day!

I love being able to experience interesting things on my tag trips and this visit to Iowa had plenty to offer besides just the games I played. I got to check out the World’s Largest Truckstop along Iowa 80.

On my way home I passed through Charlotte, NC with a lengthy layover that allowed me time to explore the airport, where I had my first taste of southern cheddar grits.

And I ventured into a concourse I haven’t walked through before where I took a pic next to this actual tail of an airplane, which really puts things into perspective.

Returning home safely, I feel very fortunate to be able to do all these things. Earlier in the day while I was in the airport, a pilot was watching me consolidating (cramming) two bags of luggage into one, and even he was surprised by how much I managed to get into one bag. My response: “Daughter of a flight attendant.” Packing creatively for crazy adventures since…(year redacted, lol).

Iowa was great and I look forward to seeing where the next laser tag adventures leads me!
